let the fun begin. my fuel pump relay area of my truck is a mess i've got all these relays in one are just sittin there and recently my fuel pump relay went out. i put in a new one a wala my truck ran again but now my wires are messed up i broke an end on one and i don't exactly know where it goes on the harness. i need help with how many wires should be going to the fuel pump relay. what are all these dang relays anyway. Will i have to replace the harnes? is it hard or what?
Sorry, I don't think I can help you with the exact location the wire goes into the plug, but I can tell you what wires go to the fuel pump relay, and what they are for.
Yellow= hot all the time from the battery, this is power coming in for the pump relay.
Brown= this is power going out to the fuel safety switch and fuel pump. The relay connects the yellow and brown together to make the fuel pump run.
Red= this is control power. It only has power when the main computer power relay is on. It feeds one side of the coil of the relay with 12 volts.
Tan/lightgreen= I hope this is the wire you have loose. Age may have changed the stripe color a little. This wire is the other side of the relay coil. Think of it as the negative. One side of the coil has the red 12 volt wire, and to turn the relay on, the computer grounds the tan/lightgreen wire. If the computer does not receive a signal from the distributor, it assumes the engine is not running, and takes the ground off the tan/lightgreen wire, which shuts the fuel pump off.
