What are some symptoms of a bad fuel pump relay? Does the relay control the in-tank pumps and the high pressure pump? I'm asking because I did a search on relays and it sparked my curiousity. Since my high pressure fuel pump is running loud I was wondering if the tank pumps may not be running. Is this a part that you unplug and just plug the new one in (is it a mess to deal with?)? Thanks.
Yes, it controls both pumps. You just unplug it and plug in a new one. When you turn your key forward you should hear a click...that is your relay. To test your in tank pump get a piece of garden hose and shove it in your gas tank. THen put it up to your ear and turn your key forward. You should hear it hum. Good luck!
I pulled the fuel relay out today. In the plastic holder that it sticks into, there is an empty space that looks like another relay of some sort should be there. Anyone know what is supposed to fill that space?
I think that holds another relay. I believe an ignition relay. It may have fallen out. It is just used to hold them so they don't flop around. It's probably just laying around somewhere in there.
I looked all over in that area and couldn't find another relay. I'll try and get back to it later this week if the temps get into the tolerable area. There is also a wire that isn't hooked to anything on the driver's side fender that has me wondering. I'll snap a pic of it and post . . . hopefully on Thurs. or Fri.
