the problem is that the starter gets locked on and wont shut off even if the key is removed it will not stop till battery dies
this happens randomly usually just when i dont need it also can be some what embarassing
i have replaced the starter and solenoid twice so now i figure it must be something in the ignition
it has a push button start so maybe thats it??? or maybe ignition module ??
i cant find anyone who has had this problem except with bad starters ... the starter i have now is a duralast gold series on a 1988 351w efi bronco xlt
The next time this happens, remove the small wire from the solinoid. If it disengages then I would suspect the internal contacts in the push button are getting weak and not breaking contact when you let go of it.
i wish i would have last time but i was freaking out trying to get that F#@%ing battery cable off before battery died and before i wrecked my new starter/battery cables
the only problem with waiting till it happens again is the possibility of getting stranded
will it work if i disconnect the ignition-2-solenoid wire and test it with volt meter on repeated start attempts??
It is possible that you may find it by doing that, but maybe not.The reason I say this is,while you are pushing the button completing the circuit there is amperage going through the pushbutton which causes the internal contacts to get hot,but when you disconnect it and try testing it you wont be putting any amperage through it to get it hot,but I would try anyway
A lot of problems have been reported and Ive experience it several times with aftermarket starter relays. Some versions are constructed in such a manner that they stick when wired the same way the original was. The resolve has been to get the correct one from the dealer, or reverse the wires on the two large posts.. IE move all the wires from one post to the other and visa versa with the wire(s) on the opposite post.
so when i switch the wires should i switch the ign. wire that goes to the i post to the s post or vice versa i cant remember which one it uses but anyways should i switch its post as well??
it seems like it has to be something else i mean this is the second brand new solenoid
