I just purchased a 1997 Explorer Sport. They could not find both sets of keys and the salesman said it had remote keyless entry. I went back today and got the keys but another salesman said it wasn't remote (so I didn't get a key chain pad). My wife had the truck so we couldn't check it out. I have programmed the touchpad on the door, thanks to this group. How can I tell, without going back to the dealer if it is equipped for the remote entry? Where is the sensor located on a 1997?
Thanks

If your door has the keypad, then your vehicle has "remote" keyless entry which should have included 2 remotes. Hence the term, "remote" keyless entry. My 96 did........
I have the same truck, and the same question. When I got mine (used), it came with one set of keys and no transmitter. Were you ever able to get one? If the truck is equipped with a receiver, I'd love to get a transmitter for it.
If you have the keypad on your driver's side door, you have remote keyless entry. You can get a remote from Ford's parts counter for about $25-$30 or one from E-bay for about $10. Be sure and get a remote for a '95-'97 Explorer. In '98 Ford changed the system and the later remotes won't work on your '97. To program the remote to your Explorer you need to have all the remotes that you plan on programming in the vehicle. Once you reprogram a remote, all previously stored codes gets cleared. Have all of your remotes ready, put the key in the ignition and turn it from off to on, back to off 5 times. On the 5th time leave your key on. Your power locks will lock and then un-lock to confirm that you are in the programming mode. If this happens, you have remote keyless entry. Within 5 seconds you have to press a button on each remote that you want to program for your Explorer (maximum of 4). After pressing a button on each remote, your locks will cycle again to let you know that the code was accepted. Once you have programmed your last remote, turn the key off. For '98 and up you need to cycle the ignition 8 times instead of 5 times.
I just bought a '98 Explorer used from an auction. It only came with one key though I did find a 2nd key on the bottom of the car. I just went out and tryed turning the ignition over 8 times (on/off) and nothing happened with the locks......I guess I can assume that it doesn't have a keyless entry, right?
Do you have the numeric keypad on your driver's door? If not then no you don't have remote/keyless entry. If you have the keypad then there may be something wrong with your keyless entry computer.
