This is my first explorer. 2002 XLT. I picked it up yesterday. The dealer only had one key and one remote. When I asked about it the salesman said they only had one key but he would give me an additional remote. The original remote was working but when he tried to program the other into the vehicle the original stopped working and even the service manager wasn't able to program either one into the vehicle. I've read most of the posts and I'm going to try to erase the old codes, but does anyone have any ideas that might help?
Thanks
Sarge
PS. I've done the 8x ignition key procedure as did the dealership, but no go.
When you do the procedure, do the door locks respond to say it's started? Have you reviewed the procedure in the owners maual to be sure you're doing it right? It's been a while since I did my '03, but I remember that the switch had to be back & forth in a fairly short period of time, and then you only had another short period of time to mash the FOB button. Also, are you sure the batteries are good in the remotes?
I was performing the procedure properly. I thought about the problem and decided that it seemed to be a computer problem. I did the Ctrl+Alt+Del with the onboard computer by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. I reattached it and tried to programming procedure again. It worked. I was very happy to call the Ford dealer and tell them I had ficed the problem that had baffled them. Thanks for the help
