Anyone tried TWO mufflers inline?

Not a popular direction for a mod, but I'm looking to make my PSD as quiet as possible without undue restriction.

I do realize that restriction and noise tend to have an inverse relationship, so I'm aware that making it too quiet will have the added drawback of increasing backpressure and a resulting loss of power.

Having said that, has anyone ever tried to add another muffler to their PSD? I wonder what it would sound like?

I don't think you want to go that way. It will create a lot of back pressure that will raise EGT's.
How much do you want to learn on this subject? I have been reading for two weeks solid on diesel cackle and how to quiet it down. And spending another week and a half in my spare time doing the mods to make it work. So far I have had great success. I even went so far as to gut my muffler and open up my air intake to give the engine better breathing. You'd think it would get noisier that way but the truck is actually quieter due to the mods that I have done. No power chips or 10k mods, just a better fuel, air, and exhaust system than the factory gives.

I'm all ears! I could listen for a long long time on the subject.

Care to share more than the summary?

Here's the stuff that I have been reading. To start with I would look at www.texastowncar.com. He spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out why some trucks "cackled" and other truck didn't. It's complete with cylinder contribution test graphs. There is other reading there too. You have to register and be emailed back for security reasons explained at the opening page, but it's worth it.

Here are some excellent pictures detailing the air in fuel problem and what you can do to fix it. http://community.webshots.com/album/32614313yLKyrS

And then there is www.dieselinnovations.com They sell that HPOP (high pressure oil pump) crossover hose among other things. While you are there check out the video's that they have. One of them is somebody took thier Buick Grand National and modified it. They put two turbos on it and then dynoed it out. 1000+ HP!!! Lot's of tire smoke and so loud it overcame the microphone. And Maddog's 11.47 diesel pickup 1/4 mile runs.

Great site and well worth the read. Thanks for the heads up. Have you done any of the mods on that site other than the H/X mod? Did you notice any sound (or other) improvements with the H/X mod?

So far I have done the fuel pickup mod and every fuel connection between the tank and inlet of the fuel pump. Massive improvement in sound and power.
HX mod. MUCH quieter idle. No increase in power. But satifaction that the two oil galleys are perfectly matched in pressure. I suspect that is why the idle is quieter. Cylinder contribution is more perfectly balanced and no "lazy" injectors and others taking up the slack
I just completed a home made air bleed system with a very small oriface to get rid of what they call "pat's" air in the fuel. Another significant improvement. More of a even diesel growl instead of diesel growl mixed in with "pingety-pingety-pingety". The engine actually got louder with this mod but it's a healthier sound than before. Sounds like a real diesel now.
Other mods: Gutted muffler to remove some back pressure. Exhaust back pressure valve modified to be an exhaust brake. A HUGE auxiliary fuel tank in the bed: 98 gallons.
