Last week I was given a 1979 F250 p/u. It has a 460 in it with a 2bbl carb. I personally have never seen that before. Does that sound right to anyone? Thanks for any input on this!
Must be a darned big duece! A 460 will run out of air pretty quick at higher rpms. This is a great opportunity to try out a new 4 bbl manifold and carb setup
No it's not right the 460 was never offered as a 2bbl, but it could have been a transplanted intake at some misguided attempt to get better fuel economy, or maybe even more likely the whole engine is a transplant, and is actually a 429, you didn't say whether it was 2wd, or 4wd. if it is 4wd it definatly is a transplant
The truck is a 2wd. I have not checked block numbers. The sticker on the hood says its a 460. I do know that it is a big block. Just don't have any history on the truck.
Thanks for the info monsterbaby, the reason ive been asking these question is because my 460 was rebuilt about a year ago and ever since the engine has tried to get warm on me.Long story short, ive done everything and put everything new on the truck to try to correct the problem. Finally im down to tearing the heads off and im wondering if its a gasket on wrong or if the water jackets on the 70 heads are smaller.
