3L3Z-1542430-AAA Window Mldg $144.25 $108.19</PRE>
Is this the correct part to fix a leaky slider window in a 98?
It seems a bit expensive, and i get the jobber price on the right, not retail on the left.
After reading up on this site and searching around, I read that someone removed the rear 3rd brake lamp and used some silcon sealer to seal a leak that they had.
It appears that mine is coming from that general area near the 3rd brake light, so I got some silcon and spread a smooth gasket all the way across the gap.
Its going to rain tonight, so I hope I can report good news in the morning.
yeah, mine was leaking and i thought it was the window, removed the brake light above window, caulked it with lots of clear silicone and the problem is gone. some suggest just caulking around the brake light but it would look bad and its only 2 screws to remove - don't be stingy on the caulk!! hope it works
I haven't noticed any leaking in mine until I wash the truck and spray the back window with the sprayer. If I spray the window straight on it usually doesn't leak, however if I spray at an angle, water leaks through. Do any of y'all have this problem?
Hey JH6, If the silicone trick doesn't work for you (didn't for me, has for others) that doesn't sound like the right part number for the gasket fix. I bought it a year ago and it was around $50.00. I can't find the correct part number but it is listed in the TSB.
I was the guy that put silicone behind the third brake light. When you take off the third brake light try to put sealer everywhere you see a crack or where to moldings line up. It worked for me... And let it dry for a long time... 2 days without getting wet!
well I tried the silcon sealer trick behind the 3rd brake light. It stopped most of my leak. It used to be pouring into the cab, but now it just drips a little bit.
Ive posted this reply so many times I should write a book on it. All I can say is if you have the slider and want to remove it and re-use it BE CAREFUL! I have yet to see one come out without cracking the frame. Then, you will need a new slider.Mine along with 3 of my friends, sliders cracked upon removal. The company that replaced mine said it is like 1 in 10 that dont crack. And,thats if you take extreme caution and a couple of hours to remove it.Good luck!
Sounds like your last option is the gusset seal fix in TSB 01-01-11. I did it last fall and it has worked great. My slider frame had a hairline crack in it but I went ahead with the fix anyway and didn't replace the frame.
the early trucks had bad sliders ford replaced alot because of the problem they have redesigned it now so it won't crack. I have replaced alot of them the new ones still leak but you can take them out and reseal them with mseal it is availible at any autoglass shop some of them need to have the gasket replaced on the plastic trim they only have foam around the bolts and they go bad good luck fbealer
I need I copy of the tsb 01-01-11 that you said you have. I tried my local ford dealer and they said they didnt have time to get it for me. If you still have it could you please e-mail to me at ajo@toeperf.com
Thank you. Tony.
