Autolamp feature not working

I have a 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer and the Autolamp feature isn't working. I put the headlight swith into the Autolamp position but nothing happens. Got any ideas?

Could be a bad light sensor on top of the dash, or bad switch, or relay. Was it dark enough to enable it and was it dark when you turned it on and was the key in the run position? I am only asking these things because I have no idea if you have owned it for years or bought it yesterday.

Yes, it was dark enuff for the lights to come on and the truck was running at the time. I've owned this Expy for about 3 wks but I've had a 97 and 98 in the past.
