Illumination of Instrument Panel on Autolamp

Good morning everyone,
I have a 2001 Lincoln Navigator, 5.4l, 4wd. It has the auto lamp feature. My wife uses the auto lamp feature religiously. The headlights automatically come on when it gets dark, just as they should. The problem is that the dash lights, (instrument panel), no longer automatically come on when using the auto lamp feature. The dash lights work fine when you manually turn on the headlights. The dimmer switch is turned up. Any ideas?

Is it just the instrument cluster or other items as well, such as switches that used to be illuminated no longer are?

Thanks

The instrument panel backlight and gauge cluster only. All of the surrounding items, switches, radio, a/c temp, work fine. The instrumental panel stays black, except for the odometer. I flip the headlight switch to parking or on, the panel lights up like a Christmas tree.

Then it unlikely a wiring issue and is more likely a bad dimmer module or headlight switch.

Here is the location of the dimmer module shown behind the glove box.

Alloro,
I greatly appreciate you helping me. I will get behind the glove box and check that out. Fuse 16 was good. Can you tell me what these two items are on top of the dashboard passenger side?

The left is a photocell for sensing light levels and the other is the interior temperature sensor for the automatic climate controls. BTW, that oval piece those are mounted in pops up and you might be able to access the dimmer module from there.

I had the same problem with an 02 navigator, I ended up just wiring the parking lights and the autoheadlights together. Unlike yours truck my navigator only had the headlights turned on auto lol
