Well - they replaced the drive shaft (?) and said it fixed the shudder on a straight away take off, but now they claim they have to replace the clutch pack in the rear end itself to solve the shudder it has when you're starting out at an angle. (turning away from a curb or ?)
I'm just skeptical of anything they have to say ... but I'm not a mechanic and don't know whether they're feeding me a line or not?! All I know is - I have a truck with a sticker price of close to $40k - and it's spent 4 days in the shop already - and has to go back in this week. How frustrating is THAT?! I guess it could be worse.............knock on wood.................
my 04 scab has the shutter / clunk ford told the dealer ther working on the problem and said not to replace anything till there is a real fix what line line of crap!

Have a 04 FX4 Screw 3.55 LS with 13k. I have had the clunk since new. Yesterday had the clutch packs replaced, as well as the front rotors which were warped. I was pleased that both problems were addressed with minimum grief from the dealer. I hope this solves the problem.
I have a 2005 F150 supercrew bought from island Ford in S.I. it came with 22 kaotik rims & Falken tires. I immediately noticed a short /slight vibration from the rear end when I take off from a dead stop. I thought it was the additional mass I am turning (RIMS and Tires).
By the looks of this thread there seems to some driveline promblems.
Do you know what service bulletins apply to this promblem.
I allso have to admit Island Ford is great when it comes to taking care of their customers.
I had the same problem I took it in and they replaced the clutch packs, king pin and put in 75W90 synthetic gear oil and problem fixed.
I have a question for you and anyone else... What I need to know is that any of you that have the rear shudder problem, What kind of MPG do you get? Mine has the LS and has a shudder and its getting around 11-12mpg. The last truck I had wasn't LS and it averaged 16-17mpg. I have a feeling this is related. I felt my rearend after a long drive and it was hot, just about 5 degrees from being too hot to touch.
IF you did have the problem, did that seem to help MPG?
I had a small clunk on take-off. Im not sure if its anything like what you all are experiencing. The dealer simply pulled the shaft, coated it with some teflon lube, and it seems to be gone. Lets hope its gone forever. Other than a few glitches (i could have lived with the slight clunk), this truck is awesome!
It's the clutch Pack!! I experienced the slip/clunk when the truck was cold. Usually accelerating and turning, from a complete stop! I took it in to my dealer, asked if anyone else had been complaining of this problem. They said a few, and that replacing the clutch pack should do the trick. Picked it up the next day, and two months later, still hasn't returned
how do like the truck ? i have a 04 with a 5.4 having a lot of trouble from mine. i notice when the motor is cold it sounds like there are marbles rolling around they tell me thats normal, when warmed to normal temp motor has less noise, rear slips , clunks and shutters when take off from a stop. back window rattles. only 1700 miles. had it a island ford 3 times so far fixed nothing, good luck with yours!
2004 s-crew 4x4 5.4 3.73 ls, i had the clutch pacts and pinion gears changed at 8,000 miles. was getting 15-16 in town and 20-22 mpg on hywy. it fixed the shudder problem. at 12,000 miles they greased the splines on the drive shaft because it felt like it was slipping. now at 15,800 miles they changed the rearend gear oil to 75/140w because the slipping is back. and the milage is down to 11-12 in town, and 15-17 on hywy. and it has been reflashed twice. seems to respond alot better but the milage is still bad. i think it has something to do with the rearend that they are doing.that is messing up the milage. j.m.o. or could be the synthetic oil. i wait til it warms back up and hope it gets back to the 15 and 20,s that i was getting before they started working on it.
oh and i have calculated my milage since i bought it new and the instrament panel is really close every time i have checked it, within less then a mpg.
there was a ssm on rear end slip / clunk new kit came out they ordered parts on wed hopefully this is a perm fix. so many problems with this truck i hope this is it. cause my blood boils ever time i make a payment

I know how you feel. i've had everything from slip/clunks to total brake failure and cam phaser replacement. And now I get an occasional grinding noise from the transfer case that Ford can't duplicate.
Tuesday I trade this POS in for a 2005 F250 XLT Powerstroke Crew. Already checked the vin# for any recalls. Built in 12/04 so no tranny problem. This F150 has made me very wary about NEW trucks.
