Hey Scott!
My Shudder came back after the clutch pack replacement. The Clunk is gone, but the shudder came back. I also give up. When it gets worse, I'll bring it back. Like yours, it's only every once in awhile.

did they add the friction modifier to your gear oil? IF so, do some donuts in a empty parking lot to help get modifier into the clutch plates!! do it both ways . it worked for me!
ok - not to sound stupid - but I'm new. Just dropped my 04 Scab off this morning. It shudders when I start out slow - either turning or pulling straight out. Even more noticable when I'm on a hill. I don't want to have them yanking me around on this. I'd love to just drop this "TSB" in their laps - but I don't have a clue where to find it.
Help! I miss my truck already..... the loaner they gave me is a generic piece of crap! My Lariat has me spoiled....
I forget the number of the TSB, but they have to replace your clutch packs and teflon grease your slip yolk. Make sure they use a liberal amount of grease or it will come back. i have put 6000 miles on since the last grease job and all is well.
For what it is worth....I mentioned it to my service tech and he said he has replaced the selinoid on 4 different trucks and it has fixed the problem. Said they were sticking.....what does this smean?
i had my 04 in for service and they replaced the clutch packs. but the first after about 100 miles i was backing up a hill and i got that same groaning sound
it actually sounds like its coming from the right rear caliper
so maybe my problem wasn't the clutch packs.
anyone else hear this groaning noise on back up? its worse if the wheel is turned or i'm backing up a hill
Ive got the same clunk with my 04 scab. honestly I was pretending not to here it for a little longer to see if it got worse, Iv only got 1500 miles on it now. I know I'll have to have it dealt with but the brakes are squaking and they already replace a belt. How can I replicate the problem for the dealer if its only an intermitten thing. Does anybody know for sure what the problem is?

I had a small "clunk" when accelerating from a dead stop. It went away by itself at about 2,000 miles. Maybe my clutch packs were just a little tight, and they wore in???
Mine was a shudder - almost as if you were turning too tightly with it in 4x drive...but went away once you got up to 5 mph or so. After telling the service tech that I thought there was a TSB on this issue, he immediately ordered a new drive shaft. ?? It's suppposed to be done today. All I know is - they said they didn't want to mess with "just the clutch" - wanted to do the whole thing. Hope it works........
someone correct me if Im wrong, but the service department get paid by Ford for all the warrenty work they do. So, of course they wanted to 'do the whole thing'. Im sure there's more to it than that but it seem like it works out better for the owner that way. I would just worry because my truck does not vibrate, Ive read about so many different owners having trouble with their truck vibrating and needing a new driveshaft that if I got lucky and got one that didn't vibrate and they replaced it, I would get one that did.
My 04 Lariat 4x4 has had the "thunk" since it was new. I took it in a month or so ago and they greased the slip yoke, but it didn't help at all. Guess I'll have to bring it in for a more agressive repair. This will be dealer visit number 7! Maybe it will be lucky! LOL
