Need more power. '97 expedition 4.6...

Hello, I have a 1997 expedition with a 4.6 and 3.55s. It has a tow rating of 5500 and our boat weighs 5200. Well it just plain needs more power to tow this boat(or train lol). I was looking at getting Gibson headers, Gibson side swept exhaust and i was also looking at getting a chip for it too. But there is so many different chips/programmers out there. Could any one link me or tell me of a good chips/programmers?

And do you think that all that would be enough or should i look into getting a different throttle body too?

Thanks.

P.S. Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I would first re-gear the axle to a lower (numerically higher) ratio, so the engine gets up into it's powerband quicker where you can use the power you already have. Most modifications to the engine, aside from costing alot of money and not giving much in return, also usually have more effect on higher rpm power than lower rpm power. If it's a 2wd truck and doesn't have a lot of miles on it, a simple rear axle re-gear can be $500. Modding the exhaust, intake and computer will eat up 500 bucks in a heartbeat and you still don't have the engine rpms to make use of the upper rpm portion of the extra power...

Ah... 4wd doubles the cost of a gear change and with that many miles, you'd want to put all new bearings and seals in both axles while you're at it too... At that point, it's 6 of one or a half dozen of the other, either gear change or engine mods will cost ya... Gear change still a good idea though...

if its an option i would consider tradeing your expedition on something with either a bigger engine or an excursion. alot of the mods to make more power will cost you some $$ and with that many miles i would quiestion how much longer it will last.
If you do want to keep your expedition, you could loook into a supercharger for more power, exhaust work, bigger air filter, etc etc. good luck and let us know what you do.
