My 94 ranger engine light turns on and off. I had the codes pulled at Autozone and they said there was nothing wrong or it is intermitent. They did all 4 tests.
Sometimes the engine light comes on with no other problems and occasionally it comes on about 5 seconds ofter a brief but hard jolt of the truck. The truck is also stalling occationally at stops. This all started about two weeks ago.
The 157 is MAF curcuit below minimum voltage, 158 is above max voltage, 998 means you didn't pass the KOEO test. If you need the pinpoint test I can email it to you.
A little late with the result, but better then never.
I checked the codes myself and got 157 (MAF sensor voltage too low) and 158 (MAF sensor voltage too high). Got pinpoint test and all seemed ok until I tapped on the sensor with my hand. Voltage would drop to zero, then spike to 4-5 volts, then settle back to about 1.5v. After a few more taps, the voltage went to zero and stayed there.
I installed a new MAF sensor and still got code 158. I removed the wire harness connector and found that when not connected to the sensor, the signal wire is at 5 volts. I apparently was loosing connection. I slightly bent the contacts in the sensor and have had no more problems.
