You can rent the tool from Autozone for something like $20. And that is fully refundable if you give it back in good shape.

You just need 2 upper and 2 lower ball joints. You will also need a pickle fork that you can get at your local auto store for like 10 bucks. I have the same truck and when I did mine, after pricing out through a number of different stores, I found my local Ford dealership to be the cheapest. They were about 35 bucks a piece. You also need a rubber mallet to free the spindal. That was the absolute hardest because it is frozen and rusted on. but the job is definitely doable. trust me - I did it.

If you are in Stevens Point WI, then I am not very far away from you, I live near Manitowoc. I have all the tools needed for this job(I am a tech at a small shop). I have a 10lb slide hammer with an attachment for removing the spindles. That takes alot of work out of the job. If you need help, or just tools, let me know. Another thing you may want to check is your axle joints. The front axles need to be ramoved, and if the joints are bad that is the best time to replace them. As for a brand of Ball joints, I always used Moog and have never had any problems.
