We have bought over 200 items and have 100% pos feeback. I buy most of our movies and cds off of ebay. If I am looking for something unusual for my home I can usually find it there. Got burned once really bad and then a little burn another time. But I turned the law loose on their mangy hineys and they caught hell.
Biggest thing we have bought is a 27 foot above ground pool from a pool store on ebay. We paid 1,500 for it, it ws brand new and up the road at the local pool store exact model numder, style everything the same (same pool) was on sale for 4,200.00
Pool is up and summer is so much better! weirdest thing I ever bought was an egg catron from the 30's with my husband last name on it. (same as farms)
I have never bought or sold anything on Ebay. I don't even have an account (yet). I don't have any problems with the concept, I just haven't tried it yet. I have been watching the prices on 1968 Mustang fastbacks and may bid on one someday but I can't get over not being able to see the vehicle in person.
Will it hurt me to have no feedback at all and bidding on an automobile (large ticket item)?

Some sellers want new buyers to e-mail them first, and some will cancel bids by new buyers. It's sort of a safety measure--the seller's fees are determined by the closing price of the auction, even if the bidder doesn't pay. Ebay supposedly will credit a seller for non-pays, but it's a PITA and only worth the hassle if it's a big-ticket item. So, being a new buyer might keep you out of some auctions. Just e-mail the seller first, let him know you are actually serious and not some joker who's going to bid and then bail.
You could start an account and pick up some small stuff. Kinda like anywhere else--the longer you've been around, the better people will feel about dealing with you, and picking up some feedback will only help. eBay's pages clearly show the date you registered, so anyone there can easily see how long you've been around. This is probably more important if you're selling than buying, of course.

I just got an email from ebay saying that my account was closed due to suspicious activity. I have never had an account. I clicked on a link the other day to look at some item.

If it's telling you to re-enter your username and password, it's some butthead trying to get access to your account. It's kinda like spam, makes them no difference whether or not you have an account. I get these all the time, want me to enter username and password, sometimes a credit card to "verify their records". Guess, if you don't actually have an account, you're pretty safe.

Forward those kind of emails to spoof @ ebay . com
They actually replied back to me once saying that they would never ask for user names and passwords much less banking account and credit card info through the email system.
The email came from ebay as far as I can tell. They didn't want anything, just to tell me that my account was closed. An account I never had. I have yet to buy or sell on ebay.
These guys that do it are pretty slick, the appearance is good. When you click the link to figure out what the heck is going on, they lay a trojan on you, had that happen to the old system. If you try to forward it, it generally shows up as an attachment, ebay's messages don't. Also, check the address, if it shows anything but ebay's address, it isn't them.

i use ebay for everything, i sell yugioh cards and buy everything, got my valve covers, chrome waterneck, steering wheel, C6 transmission, exhaust manifolds, petronix ign, heat shield for floor, weather stripping kit, power steering pump, waterpump, and so many parts for my truck from there that i am going to put a bumper sticker on my new tailgate ( thanks mtflatt ) THIS TRUCK BUILT BY EBAY !
This is the from address I got: from eBay(dot)com<aw-confirm@ebay(dot)com
There was a "need help" box on the message. I did not click it. I just had the main body of the message on the screen. But......I think I clicked the mouse right button. This caused a 2nd screen to appear, same as the first one. I closed it and another one popped up. I finally got everthing closed. My mouse seemed to be busy with the hour glass. I then ran spybot and adaware, nothing showed up.
If you go to a email message and just click a mouse button, what does that do?
The (dot) is really just a . I had to edit this to show the whole address.
Still not working, the rest is aw-confirm@eeebayyy
158 rating as of today I love e-bay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could sell though but I don't want a credit card and I went to a site to verify and they wanted info on my exwifes car that she had repo'd
