C4 Chattering in Drive and Reverse
I've got the engine and transmission from a '67 Mustang in my '51 Merc pickup (289 and C4)
I got the truck a couple of years ago, so I know nothing about it's history. Trans fluid is within range - maybe even a bit high. Fluid is clean and clear.
Overall, the transmission works well, but there are a couple of things it does that has me concerned.
First, it tends to chatter in Drive and Reverse - both when cold and warm. Not all the time, though...just occasionally. Kind of a "chee chee chee" sound.
Second, on really hot days when I've been driving for a while, I'll pull up to a light and the transmission sorta 'sticks'. It's almost like someone's applying another brake, then letting off, then applying it again. When I give it gas to move again, everything's fine.
Any ideas and/or advice?
Thanks
Brian
