Excessive shaking while engaging in 1st and reverse
Engine and everything else under shakes like a dog coming out of a pond, only when engaging in 1st and reverse, and _only_ after properly warmed up (~30min of driving).
This is a 5-speed, 2000 f150, 4.2, RWD. I had the clutch replaced first time after 197,000. Soon after, couldn't shift again and the mechanic blamed it on slave cylinder leaking and admitting air - replaced it. Then 500 miles later the clutch developed chatter in 1st and reverse. Mechanic said it was a defect, replaced clutch again. Another 1000 miles or so, chatter again. Got too busy with work, ignored it for a while, and now 9000 miles later the chatter in 1st and reverse is major, as described above. I am suspecting the mechanic has little idea about what he is doing, at least as far as replacing clutches goes?
The only way your going to get this right is do the job over again with quality parts.
New disc, pressure plate and make sure the flywheel surface is proper.
If not it should be resurfaced/ground or replaced.
It sounds like the shop tried to help by replacing some of it but still needs to look closer and go the next steps.
On an aged truck you have to do what it takes and not try to go cheap and lay blame when the easy part is not good enough..
Good luck..
Thank you, Bluegrass 7. I like your suggestion. The shop offered to do the labor for free if I pay for the parts. I only hope I can trust their work...
