94 A/C evap core replacement procedure help!
Major leak in evap core! 95 degrees and 90% humidity will surely help motivate the DIY'er! I have worked on other cars before and have all the A/C tools (vacuum/flush/gauges etc).
Ordered the core for $116 online and poked around the engine bay to figure out what the best approach was for this. Things look pretty tight around the bay area to pull it from there. Is the best way to disconnect and pull into passenger compartment?
Does anyone have a proceedure for this?
Many thanks to all,
Marc
Removal:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Discharge the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the pressure switch located on the top of the accumulator/dryer. Remove the pressure switch
4. Disconnect the suction hose from the accumulator/dryer using the spring lock ccoupling procedure. Cap the openings to preven the entrance of dirt and moisture.
5. Dissconnect the liquid line from the evaporator core inlet tube using a backup wrench to lossen the fitting. Cap the openings to preven the entrance of dirt and moisture.
6. Remove the screws holding the evaporator case service cover and vacuum reservoir to the evaporator case assembly.
7. Store the vacuum reservoir in a secure position to avoid vacuum line damage.
8. Remove the 2 dash panel mounting nuts.
9. Remove the evaporator case service cover from the evaporator case assembly.
10. Remove the evaporator core and the accumulator/dryer assembly from the vehicle.
To Install:
->Add 3oz. (90ml) of clean refrigerant oil to a new replacement evaporator core to matain the total system oil charge.
11. Position the evaporator core and the accumulator/dryer assembly into the evaporator case out-board half.
12. Position the evaporator case service cover into place on the evaporator case assembly.
13. Install the 2 dash panel mounting nuts.
14. Install the screws holding the evaporator service case half to the evaporator case assembly.
15. Place the vacuum reservoir in its installed postition. Attach the reservoir to the case with 2 screws.
16. Connect the liquid line to the evaporaror inlet tube using a backup wrench to tighten the fitting. Use new O-ring lubricated with clean refrigerant oil.
17. Connect the suction hose to the accumulator/dryer according to the spring-lock coupling connection procedure.
18. Install the pressure switch on the accumulator/dryer and tighten finger-tight.
->Do not use a wrench to tightn the pressure switch
19. Connect the electrical connector to the pressure switch.
20. Connect the negative battery cable. Leak test, evacuate and charge the system according to the proper procedure.
Observe all saftly precautions.
21. Check the system for proper operation.
Thats it, hope i did not miss anything. There are two pictures that go along with these instruction, if you want them give me your e-mail address and i will send them to you.
