I was looking into converting my 96 F350 to AC. The yards around me have alot of AC trucks but none seem to know what parts are needed for the swap. I was wondering how complex and what was missing I know all the hard parts cond, evap, comp, lines ETC. but how intact is the wiring and venting and is this conversion even possible without swapping the cab over to an AC cab.
No A/C cab needed. You will need the complete heater/A/C box that is mounted to the firewall. Take the Evaporator Core with it and you will need all the suction and liquid lines under the hood along with the condensor in front of the radiator. You will need the compressor and the mounting bracket. A different serp belt will be needed to drive it. You will need the climate control panel from the donor truck. I am thinking you will need to pull the dash and change over the inside plenum that is mounted to the inside firewall as well. All the wiring should be in place as Ford used the same harness on non A/C trucks.
It would be nice to have the donor truck available to make sure you get all the pieces needed as you make the conversion. I worked for a Ford Dealer during the '92 -'96 year models and they ordered every F150 without A/C and converted them in our shop. Ford offered a conversion kit to complete it and we had a technician that could convert one in about 4 hours. It would probably take me a week or more.
A lot of work but worth the effort on a hot day! Good luck.
