I stripped the 75 donor truck of all usable parts a couple of weeks ago. I was not sure if the column shift linkage from the 75 would hook up correctly in the 65 longbed, but I made sure to get all of it anyway. I will be using the 75 column and the C6 /360 combo. Also will be using headers instead of those damn manifolds. Will the column shift linkage work OK?
Thanks
Chris
Are you using he donor column? If so, yes. I had a 73 parts truck that I took the same combo out and put in my truck with the column as well. No issues.
I'm the proud (i think that's the correct word) owner of a '65 Camper Special 352 automatic that I bought from a guy for $300. Problem: the tranny is sitting in the bed. Now, I've put A/Ts in Chevys and Pontiacs, but they've all had floor shifters. Is there any place I can find a diagram to show me how this colum shifter linkage works and shifts the transmission? I sure hate to break something on my new truck.
ps: did i get a decent deal? Won't know if the engine runs 'till i get the transmission installed.
Neil, You know darn well that you got a good deal. Any Ford truck that will run is worth $500.00 min. There isn't a problem installing the tranny. The shifter on the column and the tranny work together and in a straight line.
Your truck would have come with a green dot (on the dial indicater) Cruse-O-Matic tranny (three piece cast iron middle) and the shift rod should still be on the end of the column. Yes / No?
well, actually, i might've jumped the gun here. the guy I bought it from is delivering it the beginning of next week, so I'm not really sure what everything looks like. I do know that there is a lever on the bottom of the steering column, but as far as a green dot on the shift indicator, that's a different problem--it doesn't have one. Not sure where it would've gone.
But if it all works together in a straight line, then I should be able to figure it out. I imagine that I should change the front and rear seals on the tranny while I have it out, right?
Oh, and will it be fairly obvious where that heat exchanger/trans cooler mounts? I've never seen anything with coolant hoses that go back to the trans with a cooler back there.....
