Question: Is it possible to use an original auto trans steering column with a C6 transmission? The truck originally had the two speed water cooled auto trans behind a 292 motor. It now has a 390 with a C6. The original auto trans column is no longer in the truck. Instead it has a floor shifter with a manual shift column with all the shift linkage removed. I would prefer an original auto trans column shifter. So if the combination is possible I will start searching for a used original auto trans column.

I used the original column with my AOD. I used an universal lever from Lokar.

 

Thanks. I looks like it can be done. What happens with the shift indicator? Since the original was only a 2 speed, would it simply move beyond the indicator when manually shifting into first with a C6 trans? Or does somebody offer an aftermarket shift indicator to work with a C6 trans?

I'm not new to these trucks, just getting back into one after about 30 years and I've noticed there are still not a lot of aftermarket or repro parts compared to some other cars and trucks.

 

I'm going on the assumption that I'll probably never need to shift to L.
