Steering shaft issues. I pulled the shorter steering shaft from my donor truck but it's too short for my steering column. I can't get enough column to get the steering wheel on.
The steering column from the donor truck has a C6 trans so the linkage is different, the wiring harness looks different as does the column to dash bracket so I don't see how to use the column in my truck.
Wow, just putting the manual gear box back in by myself was a real pain. Ended up only able to get two of the three bolts back in. Worked on just getting that one bolt in for well over an hour. Bolts looked fine and I got the other two holes lined up fine, just couldn't get that one bolt to catch. Frustrating.
Anyway, got the new rag joint in place and drove it around the block. Really felt nice. But that one bolt is still bugging me.

I just swapped out my steering box and it was a total hassle to get those bolts in, too. i feel your pain! I finally was able to after about an hour.
HB, If you are referring to a 65-66, and swapping to a Saginaw Power gear you have to swap the complete donor column. The overall length is the same on both but the hose connections on the Saginaw gear the matching column is 2 1/3" shorter. The connect point is closer to the firewall.
Will it matter that it comes from a C6 transmission? (Both on the sifting shaft and the indicator (green dot lense)) Also, the bracket that attaches to the underside of the dash is different, will I need to fab up something to hold it to the dash?
As far as the mounting bracket goes, I removed the mounting bracket from my original column and tack welded it in the spot that the current bracket was located. You gotta drill the tack welds out in order to remove the bracket. It's kind of a pain in the *** but worth it.
The things that youse guys don't tell us that we are supposed to give you an answer to. You are saying that you currently have a C-O-M auto in the truck and you are using a C6 donor column?
Move the cuff to the new column or use longer bolts they are in the same place.
You will have to figure the wiring out, too me about an hour.

This is an old thread I found in searching the forum. I'm in the process of installing ps on my 66 F100. I've installed the whole system, including column, from a 76 and am now figuring out how best to approach the column wiring. Do you have any particular suggestions that might help me out on the wiring? I have the diagrams for both the 66 and 76 systems, but as you know the colors and routing are different. Thanks
