Poll on the V6's
#2
I voted 2 ways...
I voted for the 4.2 V6 as my absolute favorite of the V6's for the simple reason that it is pretty fast. I say the downside to the V6 is not having much power down low, but I don't really pull anything so it isn't that big of a deal. I love the way it wakes up after about 2500 RPMs and starts pulling away from the competition. I have yet to lose to a 4.3 Chevy or a V6 Dodge in any race. It's not too complicated of an engine either. It's pretty simple to work with if you know what you are doing, and so far it is very dependable.
I picked the 4.3 Chevy in second due to the fact that it has an ENORMOUS power range in the lower RPM's. I know this from experience. I have owned both trucks and though the Chevy was lower, it would kill my 4.2 in a pulling contest. Also, right off the line my old Chevy was faster, but it was a slug in the long run.

EDIT TO ADD: Keep this discussion civil please. Any opinion may be openly expressed here! Anyone is open to and has every right to give say in what V6 they think is best. I like to debate issues, but I hate to fight about them. Thank you!

5.7 Dodge Hemi is unbeatable as far as a basic stock truck motor, no superched Lightning or Viper motor for instance. That will be my next truck after I put a few hundred thousand miles on my Ford I've had enough experience watching my brother race his Dodges to feel comfortable enough to know that they make excellent trucks. And according to MotorTrend, as well as the article that Ken wrote on the new 2004 F150, the 5.7 pulls all the other stock trucks easily in the quarter mile.

Oh....duh, this was a V6 comparison........."stupid me". I didn't realize that until a few minutes after I posted. As far as my favorite V6 motor is concerned, I really don't have enough experience with V6 motors to form an opinion. My 4.3 Chevy Blazer used to chirp tires through 2nd and third gears. That thing was pretty fast and never had any problems with it except the alternator

im sorry to reply this (i've always been an underdog even with my 2.3L ranger) but my 5.0 in my ranger is my favourite
im always going to be a sucker for the underdog i guess... seeing as i bought the v6 opposing everything everyone else said, which is the same as my 2.3L ranger
*** edit now i read that you said 6 cylinder... you mihgt have tried posting that in the thread name but im going to ahve to say the 4.2L V6 it's got the most pick up in a V6 ive seen yet

I have no experience with the 4.2, but it has pretty good numbers, but it is lacking a bit down low. I like the OHC 4.0, it has decent low RPM grunt and holds it's torque farily well to a high RPM, and theres gotta be a reason it's going to be showing up in the Mustangs, so it gets my vote. It's hard to get an apples to apples comparison since neither engine is available in a similar pickup, but a 4x4 Ext. Cab Ranger is within a few hundred lbs of a 2wd Reg Cab F-150 and gets similar performance, but me being a Ranger owner. I gotta go with the 4.0. In a Ranger, it smokes a 4.3 S-10. The dodge 3.7 isn't a bad little V-6, but I really like 4.0's. Even my old Pushrod one.

i picked the 4.3 because of aftermarket. it is about the same with me for the 4.2's and 4.3's. i drove an auto full size dodge truck a month ago, it was a 95 or 96. it had a v6 and it was such a piece of crap. my daily driver 3.8 mustang would woop that thing even at hauling a heavy load.
