I honestly don't expect my 4.2 to out pull my 351. I just need something a little more economical to drive than 8-10 mpg (i've actually gotten 15 out of my old brick(bronco)).
I did the stop light drag in the country Thursday with a Colorado. Z71, twice. He had me off the line, but by second gear I was gaining and 3rd he was a memory. My F150 is bone stock with an auto and the AC on.
Based on my experience, and feel free to stick a fork in me, the 2.9 L in my B2 is the best engine I have owned. It has 180K and runs like the first day I picked it up. Which isn't saying muck but I like dependable stuff.
how about the cummins diesel in the dodge trucks, they are a I6 with loads of good tq. i am driving one now. 95 std. cab short wheel base dually with the 5 speed tranny. bad *** truck. i love turbos
Talking about a 89 F150 stock with the 302 V8, 5 speed and 3.55 rear gear. I own both trucks The V6 flat out does the 302..... Put an auto behind the 302 and it gets even worse. My brother in law has a 92 F150, 302 auto. He has a 19 foot deep V fishing boat, hooked to the 92 you can cruise at 65 and hit 70 mph on the flats. MPG is 10 or less depending on wind. My 99 V6 does 80 with the cruise on and gets 14mpg..
In stock form the V6 rules a late 80's or early 90's 302 in a F150
I would like to know why my friends 2004 GT 4.6L 5spd makes 22mpg and my 2001 4.2L gets 18 if I am lucky. Ofcourse the GT barely touches 2000rpm at 80..
This I understand..22mpg is pretty good for a GT v8, considering he can't shift. its also a ohc engine, as opposed to our conventional ohv..I have 355 gears, he has, I think 327..he has a nice tight clutch i like..mine is either tight or really loose...always changes..while i am driving it???
Hey Black4.2, You might want to check on your clutch master cylinder. If it feels stiff when the pedal is depressed, and then tends to loosen up after a few pumps, it could be a sign that your cylinder is on its way out.
