I had a 05 E-150 with the 300. It was one of my favorite engines. We drove it from Michigan to Mexico city a number of times and the torque was wonderful in the mountains. The engine did not like all the fast highway driving around Metro Detroit which required high rpms on a frequent basis. In that respect it lacked power as the power band was in the low 2000s. But on the open highway going 70 to 75 mph it was in heaven.
I Own A 2005 F150 4.2 And It Is A Great Little Engine. Will Be Putting On A K&n Aircharger Theis Week To See If That Wakes It Up A Little More. Already Have Dual Exhaust
I don't have a V6 in my truck, but I voted for the ford 300I6 and the gm 4.3 V6. A buddy of mine has a 94 regular cab long bed F150 with the 300I6 and a 5spd and that thing can really get going from a stop. My family had a 92 Astro van with the 4.3 and we regulary pulled our popup camper with it and the camper weighed about 3000 when loaded. Couldn't even tell the camper was back their, my parents bought the van with around 40k on it and they got rid of it with 186k. The last we knew it was running but now i think it finally died.
Id have to vote for the 300 I-6 for the simple fact that they last forever. Granted it doesnt have the greatest peak hp, but its got power down low where you can actually use it.
