I just checked. DOHC 3.5L Inline 5cyl.......220hp at 225 torque. Fords Inline OHV 4.9 6cyl. Produced 145hp at 265 torque. (more then our 4.2's) Just imagine if Ford reinstated the inline 6 with DOHC...ouch....ofcourse the 3.5L gets 18.8mpg, the 4.9 12.5..hmmm...With that being said I wonder how a race would go between the colorado and a f-150?
My 300 is in a 65 F100 with a four speed. I changed the rear gear from a 3.50 to 2.75 and with 235/75R15 tires she runs 1750 at 60mph 60 mph yields 20mpg. Also the 65 spec is 150hp net and 285 torque net give or take a few.
This statement is absolutely false by all means. There are in no way more aftermarket parts for the other V6's than there are for the 4.2. There are enough aftermarket parts for our trucks to run 11's and maybe 10's if you have enough time and money. If anything, the 4.2 has more aftermarket goodies than the rest of the competition. (referring to the V6 of course)
definetly agreeable
since i am a scientist i say that because Of oleman henry ford was around, that he invented the most aftermarket parts for his t-models like superchargers, 500hp engines, k&n filters, dual exhaust
coul you imagine a decked out t-model with one of todays engines in it but same tmodel frame and body?
hell, throw the new chevy ssr down the drain here somes the 2005 ford t-model
Well, the I6 and V6 are tied! Man, that's pretty cool. From what I can gather so far, the newer 4.2 is a better everyday driver/racer than the old 4.9L I-6, but the I-6 is better for towing and being an everyday work truck. Both ups and downs for both sides.
Has anyone noticed that the Dodge doesn't even have a vote yet?
I think I found one better. From Ford's Australian Site.
4.0 DOHC Inline 6 w/ VCT
182kW (244 HP) @ 5000 RPM
380kW (280ft-lbs) @ 3250 RPM
It is the base motor for the Ford Fairlane. http://www.ford.com.au/showroom/pass...r_Vehicles.asp
go to "Fairlane & LTD" and then "models" at the far right, you'll figure it out. If it is reliable, it would be friggen awesome.
I Drove a 96 gmc sonoma Vortec V6 5spd once. I would have to say that it did have some pep. I liked how it shifted more than my 4.2, but ofcourse it had a preformance clutch. In my opinion the magnum v6 is a joke...atleast the older ones.Infact I wasn't impressed with the Magnum v8 either..though it was a full sized crew cab.. Anyone ever tried racing a Dakota Sport 5spd?
I'd have to say the 300 is the best. They last forever. Ford produced them for 31 years, and they last just about that long. I know I'll be driving my truck with the 300 for at least another 10 years. Fred
The Straight Sixes Seem To Last Forever. How Many Straight Sixes Are Still Running Around In Old Trucks And Cars..tons. They Might Not Be The Fastest Things Around But They Seem To Last Forever. Just Add Lots Of Thick Oil And Go!
Yea I had my 300I6 up to 6000, or close to it, grand quite a few times...It could take anything..I wouldn't be suprised if you could run it on desiel and it still run..

I had a 91 f150 300 inline company truck, when It got handed down to another guy it had 241,000......that was a year ago............right now im driven a 96 f250 with a 351 and its got 254,000..........ford has made some great engines there is no doubt!!!!!
My all time favorite 6 is the 300. A little bit of a dog in the speed zone, but when it comes to towing, NO other 6 can out do the I6. BUT in the V6 category I'd have to say the 4.2. Just bought my 99 150 scab 5spd w/41000 on the ticker. I have to say, its a peppy little engine. BUT still can't out-tow my 79 bronco w/351m.
"Heh, there's no way the 4.2 could out pull a 351 in towing"
Right you are, but they will walk all over a 302. I had a 1989 F150 with the 302 5speed and 3.55 rear gear. My 99 V6 with the 5 speed and 3.08 runs right past the 89 and gets better MPG doing it.
