Surface Rust Spots
My truck has the original paint from 1970, and still looks pretty good. However, there are a few small spots on the top of the sides of the bed, and in the bed itself where the paint has worn away, and surface rust has developed. In the bed, I have taken a wire brush in a drill and polished to rust away. I was then planning on taking rattle can clean coat to protect the bare metal. Is this the correct coarse of action or should i be doing something differently? Any help would be appreciated!

Sand to clean metal
Treat with a rust converter
Paint
Do not depend on rattle can primer, to protect the metal because it won't.
If you do a search, you'll find your question has been covered in detail.

MrHP868, please keep us informed/updated on your progress and results. The next thing Bubba gets is rust repair and paint. It's always good to know what works and what doesn't before starting a project. Thanks.
Im still working on getting the rust spots cleaned, back to bare metal. When I have all the spots cleaned, I will spray them with the rattle can clear coat. When I get that done, i will update everyone on how well it has worked.
