The inside of the bed on my 64 is in pretty good shape; it has a very slight amount of surface rust, but no holes or weak spots. I plan on using my slick as a pick up truck; it's not going to be a trailer queen. I wanted to get some opinions on how best to preserve the condition of the bed. I thought about Line-x, but I don't want to ruin it in case I or someone else wants to fully restore the truck and paint the bed. I also thought about just painting it with a roller once a year to cover up any scratches that happen, but I'm not sure what the best paint would be...
Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how best to preserve the under carriage? There is nothing but surface rust underneath, no holes or weak spots. Ziebart maybe? Would all of the rust have to be blasted off beforehand?
Preparation! Preparation!! Preparation!!! That is the most important step in the prosess of preservation. You might get more hit's if you post this in the Paint and Body section, It's down the page farther, But Be Carful. If you go to far down the page you will find the real Fun on this site! General non auto section, If you get hooked there.... you may forget all about the truck!
i'd still look into line-x. see how easily it comes off if you ever do want to restore it. imo, line-x is the best thing u can do to a pickup bed, restored or not.
I'd coat the bed and under carriage in Rust Bullet. I did it to my '78 and its the best thing I've ever done to the truck. Plus it can be painted to match whatever color you want. rustbullet.com
