does anyone know the procedure for changing the shift points on a c6 ? In particular I would like the trans to stay in 1st and 2nd longer and believe that the govenor is primarily responsible but have nop idea how to change it.
the book way of changing the shift points on a C-6 is to change the modulator to one with a higher shift point they go by color codes also you can on some of them adjust the vac mod by turning the screw inside the hole for the vacumn I believe that screwing it in raises the shift points.
Now with that said have seen guys take the govenor apart, and lighten the weights (take on apart, and you will see what I am talking about) this causes them to not have as much force to swing at speed causing the govenor to think it is going slower than it is.
next thing you can do is adjust the kick down rod to apply earlier this will cause it to think it is at a higher throttle position, and stay in the gear longer (this will not change the WOT shift points however)
A 6" narrow straight screwdriver, is what I used to turn the screw inside my modulator.
Keep up with your turns, starting with 2 full rounds and ending with half rounds. Watch out for hot exhaust pipes. I ended up with about 6 rounds if I remember correctly, but that was my tranny.
The original modulator is not adjustable but the rod between the modulator and throttle valve can be changed to one that is shorter for earlier shifts or longer for later shifts.
The kickdown rod has no effect on shift timing on a C6 transmission. It only is adjusted for wide open throttle downshifts.
