I have a 460 with a C-6 trans and was wondering if there is a way to lengthen the shift points other than manually? 1st shift out like at 5 mph and 2nd seems OK...
Go back to the pass side rear of the tranny. There should be a metal line and then a short piece of vacuum hose going to a round thing on the tranny. That is your vacuum modulator. Pull the vacuum line off the modulator. Get a very small screw driver and stick it up in the nipple where the hose went. Most of them have a screw you can turn up in there to make it shifter later or sooner.
I am going to guess turning it clockwise would make it later, but I am not sure on that.
I am sure the factory has some specs on line pressure. Their's is a compromise of shift firmness and gas mileage.
OK..I slid under the truck and pulled the vacuum line of the modulator and had trans fluid come out of the modulator...is that normal? also this one has no screw in it...should I replace this?

when fluid is in the line it's done.replace it.look for a colored band around the unit(black/green or purple.my 86 had purple
Purple was factory on mine. Purple or black will do fine. Almost all of the new ones are adjustable. The color differences indicate shift points. White, shortest, green, purple and black being longest shift points.
