I have recently purchased a 1998 Ford Explorer XLT. The previous owner did not know the door keypad code, and it did not come with an owners manual or any documentation. Is there a way I can find out the code for the drivers door keypad without taking it to a dealership?
Thanks!
You will find the code on a piece of tape on the keyless entry module. Sorry I can't tell you where to find it without a component locater which is not at home where I am now. You will probably have to remove it and look on the back side to find it.
Of course the keyless entry module was also missing when I purchased the vehicle... just trying to save myself a few bucks at the dealership...
Any other responses from any one else are always welcome!
Thanks!

I bought a couple of keyless entry modules on EBay for my 98 Explorer XLT cheaper than at the Ford dealer. They are simple to reprogram and some sellers on EBay include the directions with them. Hope this helps.
tryn to figure if there is a way to reprogram with my own keypad code instead of the one suplied. truck was bought used and id rather have own code.

You can program a personal code for yourself, but the one from the factory stays no matter what. Sorry...
I have recently purchased a 98 Explorer XLT. I found the keypad code but the sticker is wrinkled and I cannot see all of the letters. Is there another location where I can find it? Also when I get the code what are the steps I need to take to add my own personal code?
If you have the owner's manual for your Explorer, it may still have the little credit card sized card with the keyless code printed on it. If no card, then maybe a previous owner wrote the code in the manual. Check inside the front and rear covers, if not there, then open to the section on the remote keyless entry and see if it's written on those pages. Those pages will also explain how to program a personalized code once you know the factory code.
If none of that works, you may need to find someone with a professional scan tool who can access the module and read out the factory code.
