I have a 94 explorer and this morning I went to crank it and the engine wouldn't fire. It is not the battery at all. The truck sounds like it would any other time you crank it, it just doesn't get the final fireing to get it running. Has anyone had this problem before, or have any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks for your help.
I had a problem on my '92 Explorer that it would not fire, even though the battery was spinning well. I changed the ingnition module ($$), and it started firing, then later it stopped again. I changed the coil pack ($$), and it started firing then it stopped again. The symptoms were that it would continue to run (and run great) if it would start up. But any time you cut it off, it may or may not start. It could happen cold or hot. I discovered that I could move the ignition module and it would start. It turned out to be a bad connection in the connector to the ignition module. Got a new plug from a junk yard, cut the old connector off and soldered and shrink tubed all of the wires (must have been 20 wires, but it felt like 50 by the time I was finished). Since then, I have not had that problem any more. Took me a few months and a lot of $$ to find a problem that would have been cheap to fix if I had found the actual problem first.
