I was wondering if there are any loud to very loud exhuast systems out there for 1998 V8 XLT explorers. i really want to show off that 5.0 sound that i know it is known for on mustangs. Any replys much appreacted
no im not becsaue im a little skeptic of how it will fit. ive only seen one website with it for my truck and NOWHERE else. i really want that 89-93 mustang v8 growl. real loud real powerful sound. one that shakes the ground.
yeah i think thats the Mac system. its like 250$... not bad but i wanna see if i can make a sick sounding power adding dual. dont seemany X's with dual exhaust. i was thinkning about cutting at the Y-pipe putting hi flow cats on and glass packs and running them out the back as straight as possible. tell me if this has been done before.
I think you might run into a problem with clearance over the rear axle. Thats why you only see single pipes on most Ex's. Maybe if you remove the spare you could route both pipes back there, or just dump them before the rearend.
The only way to run truwe duals safely is to remove the spare tire. The spare cuts down all your room underneath, and the gas tank sits in the way on the drivers side.
If it were me, and you want to keep the spare, I would take the X to a custom exhaust shop - have them remove the entire exhaust, including cats. Then put on (1) 2-in-2-out hi flow cat like a Catco, and a Flowmaster 40 2-in-1-out muffler or glasspack - depending no what sound you want - and use all 3" pipe. This is actually the way mine is done right now. In the next couple of months, I am removing the spare (the X isn't my daily driver anymore), and I am going to run an H-pipe with (2) single cats (one for each side), (2) Flwmaster 40 series (one on each side), and true dual it all the way back.
My setup now sounds great. At idle, it is a lot louder than stock, but not so loud that it seems noisy. Then when I really get into it, everyone looks....
Exactly. For what a Gibson, Borla, etc - catback system costs, you can have a full custom job done. And that includes the price of the new cats and Flowmaster.
I have never really liked catback systems to begin with. All they are is prefabbed pipe with a different muffler. You still have the restrictiveness of the 4 cats. Iff you want to feel the difference for the price, the only way to go is having a custom job done...
I went with the 2-into-1 Flowmaster 50-series muffler on my 2001 Mountaineer, and a 2 1/2" tailpipe which did away with the factory resonator. Sounds a LOT better, and it picked up almost 3mpg on the gas mileage. Not to mention it'll BEAT DOWN those pesky 5.9 Durango RTs now....
I have a 2 in, 1 out Flowmaster 3 chamber on my 97 5.0 explorer, and it sounds good. Not obnoxiouse, but u know it's there and sounds great at high revs...you could go with 2 chambers and i'm sure it would sound nice and loud.
