I have tried many different "fuel-saving" devices the kind of "as seen on TV" and so far I haven't seen a real difference in MPGs for my Bronco. Are all of those fake, and only money-making scams?
Probably 99% are scams or offer such small gains as to be negligible. To increase mileage you have to increase efficiency, and that usually means internal mods, or at least significant external ones such as exhaust or fuel/air delivery. Get a good exhaust, intake system first or maybe a torque/towing type cam. You can also play around with gearing/tire size. Some of the best mods are the ones that reduce drag/friction such as electric fans, synthetic lubricants, underdrive pulleys, windage trays etc. Reduction of drag and friction have a dual benefit in more power and mileage.
Don't want to sound like a spammer but eagle research has a manual with many good MPG ideas. Their book Super Gas Savers shows tons, and it is cheaper than almost any gimmick you can buy. Check it out..
The only result you may see from most of those products is the result of carrying a lighter wallet. Most of the time, the best way to save gas is make sure your tires are properly and fully inflated, and keep your foot out of it. Also, your alignment can make a significant difference in your mileage.
The governemt already did that test for you using all of our money, calazo....Google search that stuff for free at that!
None of them proved their claims, so in essence, more than 99% did not work worth a flip, assuming good engine tune and not those freak gains on a 15-20-year old engine.
i picked up about 2 mpg with my 97 ford f150 when i put a k&n replacment filter in place of the paper filter. i try to have a light foot and get 15 mpg around.
