Hrm, just twists the air? Wouldn't a few thin bars in a criss-cross pattern "twist" the air? Or a fast DC fan? I dunno... just trying to think of solid ideas. There's no sense in buying anything that you already think might fall apart.
well...It was late at nite for me when I was ranting.I guess they say it creates a "vortech" effect, spins the air faster through the intake.I am sure they sell alot, but they dont show any actual proof they work.
A device such as the tornado is a waste on a direct port injection engine-how ya gonna mix the fuel air mix when it is already in the cylinder?????-On a throttle body or carburated engine you may see some benefit-Ive run a similar device on my Harleys and it does provide a benefit on them, but you are also dealing with an entirely different intake scenario-short runners and sharp bends-in this situation the addition of turbulence to the intake flow is a plus because it helps prevent the fuel from "dropping out" of the airstream.Gimmick Gimmick
If you really want to get the air to funnel in to the engine faster, you need to create a Venturi effect in the intake. Essentially you are making a ram air setup. Twisting the air won't do anything.
I recently bought one for my '82 Bronco 351W Motorcraft 2 bbl carb. Since I only use it for in-town driving, I haven't noticed much difference (but I did have to tell my wife it was GREAT, to justify dumping even more money into my Bronco hahahahahahhaha). I haven't tried it on the freeway yet but will let you know after I make my trips fishin and campin this summer. Thanks, Bill
