I have a 1997 Ford explorer EB edition.
The Left front headlight went out about a month ago and the bulb was good. I have the onboard computer which also stated check headlights.
I took it to a mechanic who could not figure it out, but did hot wire my L front headlight to work, although the computer kept saying check headlights. Recently driving down the highway, both headlight went out together spontaneously. Any ideas. Please help. My bright
lights work.
I found a electrical mechanic to fix this problem. Apparently a "burnt wire." My headlights now work. However, the computer in the EB explorer still states check headlights. Does anyone know how to reset it permanently?
I realize this is very old but I suspect that the electrical mechanic that repiared your problem did not actually find the source and only rigged your lights the same as the first. Now probly there are two jumpers instead of one. There is a "Lamp out module" just to the right of the ashtray under the plastic console where your passengers thigh or leg rest agianst. Inside this there is probly one burned solder joint this would be the begining of your problem, the end would be to repiar or replace this then repiar the riggins the other guys put in.
I had the exact same problem with my 97 EB.
Even had the "mechanic" run the jumper wire, and only tell me
he replaced the bulb. When I lost both low beams I began research.
Found the bad solder joints in the Lamp out module. Had an electronic technician friend clean up the solder joints and I was good to go.
I Have A 98 Xlt And A Similar Problem But Can Find The Lom In The Center Consol. Only Thing There Is A Wire Block. Did Ford Get Rid Of The Lom In 98.
If Not Where Is It?
XLT's don't have the LOM. Only Eddie Bauers and Limiteds with the message center will have it. Have you checked the fuses and relays?? It can also be your multifunction switch (turn signal stalk).
