1966 Headlight short

I purchased a 1966 Ford F-100 this weekend and my first project was to figure out what was causing the headlights not to work. All parking lights work put when i pull the switch all the way out for the headlights to come on, the front parking lights go out and the headlights don't come on. Anyone have idea's on where to check for a short? Thanks.

When you get it fixed post a closing here on this thread.

Mike;

On my '66 I had a similar problem. After many hair pulling hours I found out it was a bad dimmer switch. I think that had something to do with the salt and sand they use here in Minn. in the winter.

Just an addition, both my 62 and 64, when the headlights are on, the parking lights go out. Apparently this is by design. Does anyone know why?

Thanks everyone for your responses, i cleaned the switch with contact cleaner and replaced the dimmer switch and the headlights are now working.
