Explorer Headlight
Thanks
Karl
Looking at a diagram of a 92, it looks like if one headlight works, then everything past the "dimmer, flash to pass switch" is ok and its only wiring past that point. In other words, one wire goes to both low beams and another splits to both high beams. Then a ground wire goes to ground from each headlight. thats it.
Your lamp out warning module probably has bad solder joints. I am not sure exactly where it will be in the 95. I have a 96 EB. It has the center console and the driver information center. You portions of the console and the DIC. On the right, under some mounting apparatus for the console you will find a box held in place by a couple of screws. It is about an inch thick, three inches in length, and two inches in height. It is located near where the passengers left leg would be against the console.
Remove the box, open it up. (If you notice a bright orange sticker with a 1-800 number asking you to call it before replacing the module, don't bother. That is the 1-yr tracking I mentioned.) The box contains a little circuit panel. You can most likely see the bad solder joints from the plug connections to the board, I had two. You can also see, probably, where excessive heat has been handled by this circuit board - design flaw. You can try to resolder the joints. I was able to resolder one, but had to create a jumper wire for the other because it would not solder.
Like you, I found out about this over the net. Ford dealer was no help. I imagine about a $200 repair in their shop if they found it.
Depending on your level of expertise or desire, you may want to replace the unit. I cost about $55.00.
I have some files somewhere that were sent to me. I can try to post if you want. It kind of shows how to get to the LOWM. It was not all that helpful.
I can also elaboate later if you really want to undertake this. This problem can effect one or more different lights, but it is always the same module.
I spent hours looking for the problem in the wiring and rigging bypass wiring until I stumbled across the eureka.
Good luck,
Brian.
