plain as it looks in the title where can one find a nut and bolt storehouse/ nut and bolt kit/ fastner kit, what ever you want to call it where can a guy find a complete nut and bolt kit with the container similar to the harbor freight part number ITEM 927-4VGA, but with more nuts and bolts and in grade 8 instead of 5??
I made my own, I got some of the metal trays w/lid that the part stores use and filled them with the nuts, bolts and screws that I use most often, they have served me well.
You probably have a reason for wanting more grade 8 ? Just curious. I get them just for the sizes needed. I actually find it kind of rare to need more than 5's, only in specialty apps.

I think the bigger question is "Where do you find nuts and bolts at fair prices." I doubt that Autozone's one bolt/nut to a bag is going to get you a great price. Those kits seem like an excellent place to start just so you're not rushing out all of the time because you don't have a certain sized fastener for the project at hand. I find that Home Depot isn't that great a source either....it always seems like they're out of just the thing that I need whatever the project.
I too am considering one of those storehouse sets from HF. Another source is JC Whitney.
I've had the same experience and frustration you describe. So, for the past several years I've developed a number of sources to get nuts, bolts and other fasteners that I have trouble finding locally or to get the quality that I want. First i suggest you check what's avaiable from the folks supporting our forums. If that is not successful, there are a number of places on the internet where you can find "bolt and nut kits" or the makings to create your own kits . The links below go to various specialty sites where you can buy almost any sort of nut, bolt and fastener you want.
You can also link to one of the industrial supply houses to order all sorts of fasteners. The two links below are to industrial supply houses. It takes a little more work to find what you want on these sites but the variety of things available is amazing.
Finally, you can often find fasteners on eBay at a pretty good price. The first link below specializes in automobile fasteners of all types. The second one has all sorts of fasteners at pretty good prices.
As far as price goes. You get what you pay for. Bolts, etc are cheap at HD because they are poor to mediocre quality. Good steel, stainless and graded bolts are going to cost a little more but you will have some assurance that the cap won't pull off when you are torquing one down or it won't snap when a little extra strenght is needed.
Hope this is some help. Have fun.
Sorry about the eBay links on the previous message that don't work. If you have an eBay registration, sign in and search for: "Universal Fasteners Service Supply" and/or "Florida Auto Fastener" among the eBay Stores. Sorry about the miscommunication.
Hi in the area im from we have a mack hardware and they have every thing from screws to bolts washer and nut and fasterns. They have all the grades and stainless steel and brass. The web is www.mackhardware.comThat should go through. :-down
Also, just to clarify, I think a nut & bolt kit is a good start. It's not the way to permanently stock your inventory of these pieces rather it's a way to cut down on unplanned trips to find some certain nut & bolt combination when you're in the middle of a project.
My plan is to get a kit and then augment it. Whenever I go to buy fasteners I always buy more than I need in anticipation for future projects.
as an excellent source for nut and bolt kits. They offer several sizes of assortments. and have assortments in Grade 2, 5, and 8, as well as their "Tuff Torq". Tuff Torq is Grade 8 with a thicker bolt head (this is the same as Caterpillar's bolt spec's). The bolts are made in the US. They offer SAE course and fine thread bolts, as well as a full line of Metric bolts in varying hardness.
Lawson sells via their web site and has traveling sales reps who visit businesses. I don't have any relationship with them other than as a satisfied customer.
It looks like Lawson has a lot to offer...except they don't offer a price without submitting for a quote. At least, that's what it looks like to me after browsing through their online catalog.
You might try calling their toll free # and asking for a rep in your area.

My salesman (for Central New York State) is Willard Stave (315) 826 3860.
The printed catalog is over 3" thick and does not include prices. I usually make a call or see Willard at a trade show to check prices/order.
