OK he cut the exhaust off. Nice tone at idle, but at higher RPM's REALLY loud. I said it sounded like a ricer on steroids, lot's and lot's of steroids. ) He went and bought a flowmaster 40 series for it because he says he lost to much low end out of it. Will report back once the 40 series is in.
Ok, I'm the friend he's talking about. Like Chris said at idle the sound was great but I had no bottom end. Also, at about 3000 RPM the sound was annoying to put it mildly. But the Flowmaster helped get the bottom end back and the sound is much better. I rerouted the exhaust and it now dumps out before the pass. rear tire. Kinda lound in the cab but 10-fold better than no muffler.
On a side note, GloNDark was going to do this to his crew-cab but it was wrecked last week. Lets all wish him luck on the insurance co. bulls**t. FYI he's fine but sore from being rearended at 65+.
I put a Banks cat back on my truck this weekend I started it with the cat and pipe to muffler only. It was the strangest sounding truck I have ever heard. Not as loud as I thought it would be just strange. Like a Indy car on with big XXXXs.The Banks sounds a lot better for what I use I for. But a straight pipe would be cool for a short while not like a truck but whatever just strange.
Hey I have cut my muffler out an welded a straight pipe in it... it is loud an to me sounds good. When its cool start up it reeeely sounds good. I rekon you could wake the dead with it ! It has a deep throaty sound with some rattlin poppin crakelin noise... sounds cool when puttin yor foot in it all the way to the fan ! then shiftin ta next gear it will flat out speak to ya ! an downshiftin the manual is reely neat sound !

I definitely believe the V-10 needs a chambered muffler, I have a straight thru design muffler on mine, it's not a good sound and it drones horribly. I'm going to try a FM50 maybe, or the larger 40 series. But strait thru ? I don't like it, not at all. Besides, my kids can't hear the TV unless I'm over 70. It gets triring after a few hours, Ken
i just put a flowmaster 40 series 3" in 3" out muffler on mine. it sounded pretty good with just the muffler, then when i put the tailpipe on it got really quiet (compared to having it cut off right behind the cat) but its still louder than stock and definately deeper sounding than it was with no exhaust.
I've got a FM40 on mine with duals exiting behind each tire wit 3.5" tips and it sounds great especialy under load, way better throttle response and better mpg. I did notice a slight loss of low end torque but not enough to complain about. Best thing about my exhaust is having it exit behind each rear wheel so I (and every other car passing by) can hear it.
I have a 2000 f-250 V10 SD and i left the cat but took off the muffler and piping after it. there is about a foot of pipe after the cat i have had no problems it sounds great, its a deep sound never gets raspy and never had any problems with cops. i also had it looked at in a muffler shop and they said it was ok to do and there sould be no problems.
Yep that there converter pipe was where i turned mine out in front of the back tar. It is gonna be re routed to the back an I'll make me a custom Stainless Steele tip fer it ! so that will be a one of a kind Welp hope that you notice as I did the increase in takin off ! I get 10 1/2 mpg in town an 12 on highway IF i run high octane gasaline. may gut my converter when i re route the pipe to the back tar.
It's not just illegal in some states to remove or tamper with the Cat, it is a Federal thingy and worth $10,000 if they do happen to catch and decide to examplify you.
The Cats on the 6.0 diesels don't have that much back pressure and I didn't think that the gas models were that bad either but maybe that's not the case.
