7.3 straight pipe

Hey guys I was wondering if you could help out one of my friends. He just bought a 1997 250 turbo diesel. He eventually wants to put stacks on his truck but does not have the money to do it yet, so we wanted to just put a straight pipe in the gets rid of the cat and muffler and dumps it out infront of the right rear tire. What i wanted to do is unbolt the exhaust from the right infront of the cat and then just bolt a pipe back up to that spot. does anyone know where i can get a pipe like this?

cut the flange off the stock cat pipe and reweld that flange onto the straight pipe your going to use. you can also use some rebar and beat the internals outta the cat if you don't wanna do the welding. i gutted my cat a long time ago when i first got my truck. gave it a little bit of a weird tone so i took it out and straight piped it.. much better now.

you should seriously consider a down pipe. without changing that pretty much everything you do is for noise, sounds great no matter but it'll get hot with a chip or such mods. if you plan on stacks definately do a dp

I installed the DP and straight piped the truck using the stock style flange in case I have to reinstall the Cat. I used to be a muffler man so I had access to all the bells and whistles. If you were closer, I would do it for you. Good Luck

First thing to do before eliminating the cat or muffler is to make sure that where you live a cat isn't required. If it is you can gut the cat and to prevent the drone you insert a piece of pipe through the cat and weld it in place. It will look like a cat on the outside but really its just a straight pipe. Also from what little bit i've heard about the testing, these trucks pass with a gutted cat. LOL. Good luck.

I just went to a wrecker and got some old pipe from a wrecked diesel school bus. I had to borrow a welder, but the pipe only cost $10.

First off where are you at, i would give you some of my leftover stock exhaust, or go find you a driveshaft that is the right inside diameter and cut and weld that in. I understand you dont have a welder but if you clamp it you almost defeat the efect of eliminating the cat and muffler with claps and joints. Also go to the 7.3 forum and post there as these guys are the way to go when you need anything 7.3 related.
