Hi everone, I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me. I have a 77 F150 4x4 w/ 300 L6/np435/np205/3.50 gears. I plan on doing an engine swap with thoughts on building a 302 BOSS or a 351C. But now I'm leaning toward a 390. Is there a difference between the 390 and 390 GT? What heads would yeild the best flow? I've looked up the following casting #'s:
C6AE-R, C1AE, C3AE, C4AE, 390 GT 14 bolt With would be the best to use for a 300+hp truck engine? Thank you for any help
please don't put a 302boss or 351c in a 4wd. The motors make power in higher rpms and are not suited for truck use. The 390GT has a better cam and heads I believe. I am not sure if the gt uses an aluminum intake like the police interceptor. I am not able to say which heads flow the best but I would get some d2te with hardened valve seats. The edelbrock rpm heads are quite popular and have 76cc chambers so it won't ping all day long. All 4bbl 390 make 300+ gross horsepower.
Thanks for your replies. I quickly re-thought the Boss 302, But why not a 2V 351C? I thought I could build one to make good bottom end torque. I won't be using the truck to haul or tow anything. Anyway, I believe I will build a 390.
i have a boss engine that was built up for a circle track car what would be so bad to put it in a truck i need space and i am going to sell it for cheap less than a hundred or free
what hes saying is that 351 C's and Bosses aren't made to push around 4000lb non aerodynamic hunks of metal, yes they will work but you will never see their full potential in a truck, and some guy with a FE powered truck will probably clean your clock at a stop light unless u have a light weight truck. Truck engines need to make their torque down low were a truck needs it, 351's and Bosses need to make it a lil higher were a car needs it. i think thats what fordever is tryin to say, may be wrong though
Mike..Hog..you said you have what? a boss your going to give away? whats wrong with it? Hell my cuz has a 69 stang notch back I can get for next to nothing..
Might be something to play with at the strip? Im here on VA-NC border
Trust me from experiencethe 69 Boss 302 is terrible at street speeds. Horsepower is only evident at 4500 + RPMs, so unless you plan on letting that baby whine forget it. 390Gt are great motors, but from what Ive learned so far headers are not made for them that will fit our trucks. The Heads have different number of bolt holes. Hope this helps
