Pertronix ignitor question

I have had a pertronix ignitor on my truck for a year now. I have heard that connecting the red wire to the positive coil terminal would not give the unit enough voltage to work properly. The truck has an accel superstock coil on it. It also has the original wire resistor under the dash. It has run well since I installed it with no trouble at all. My question is, would the truck run better if I connected the red wire to a full 12 volt source?

Thanks

if it aint broke dont fix it! if it has run this long, it will keep running alright like it is.
if you change something like that it might not like it, and let you know at the most embarissing moment.

Pertronix likes 12v, but I ran mine for several years with the resistor wire. What can I say! That Pertronix is one heck of an improvment.
