So I just installed my Ignitor2 to try to alleviate some of the running issues I've been trying to overcome with the truck. I have the red wire to the + side of the coil. Black wire to the - side. Little ground strap inside cap is attached to ignitor 2. Also ran a good ground from coil -. Still no spark. Nothing from plugs, nothing from coil. All that came in the box was the Ignitor2, 2 eyelets and some shrink tubing...am I missing something important?
68, the guys are scratching their heads and thinking.
Can you explain what you mean when you said that you grounded the coil? You do not mean that you ran a wire from the - side of the coil.
These installations are generally bulletproof
I ran a separate wire to ground distributor as I have read that sometimes this is needed to make good ground for the ignitor and distributor function together. Don't know why I said coil. Guess because that's where I'm not getting any fire from and it is new.
I disconnected battery. Unhooked coil wire from coil and removed distributor cap. Removed rotor. Removed points set and condensor. Installed ignitor 2. Made sure to put the woven wire on one of the screws to ground. Ran red wire to + post on coil. Ran black wire to - post on coil. Put cap back on. Reconnected coil wire. Reconnected battery cable. No spark from coil now. Wire to coil has 12v from ignition. Which runs to + side of coil. No resistor wire is used in my igniton period. Not sure what I missed.
I'm pretty sure you just figured it out on your own. That magnetic sleeve is definitely required. When the magnet passes by the pick up coil, the ignition coil fires.
The sleeve is supposed to be included with the kit. I would contact whoever you bought it from and try to arrange to get one. Otherwise they can be bought seperately. After a quick search of some of the online catalogs, it looks like they go for anywhere from $24-$40 depending on which one you need.
Call Pertronics if you can't solve issue locally. They actually have pretty good customer service. I had the old style with the magnets covered with tape and when one came out, (actually 3!) they sent me a new one, no questions asked.
I contacted the guy I purchased the stuff through and he said it doesn't have a magnetic sleeve for my application. He said it may be due to the gap and I needed to set it but the module had 2 holes and only sits in one position, no adjustment available. Is he feeding me bs? He says the magnet is in the ignitor 2 and it picks up off the reluctor wheel...... If this were then case then why wouldn't it fire?
I've tried each ignitor I & ll and the lll. All but the ignitor lll uses the magnetic rotor trigger in it's setup. It comes with a new dizzy base plate..Okay If you can't get one.
I have one, I picked up at PnP I don't use...orich
