I just bought a Pertronix Ignitor II and a Flame Thrower II for my 1965 Ford. The Ignitor II coil is .6 ohm.
I have tried everything I can think of to get the thing to work, but I get no spark. The black wire on the Pertronix ignition goes to the negative coil wire. There is also a tach wire connected to the same terminal. Positive terminal of coil has red pertronix ignition module wire and starter wire attached.
Truck worked fine with points? What am I doing wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.
You should of had two wires on the coil + before you started. One to the starter, the other should have been the hot wire from the keyswitch. With the pertronix, when you have completed the install, you will have 3 wires on the coil +.
Thanks, there were actually two wires on the negative post on the coil. One went to the points, the other tested as a ground wire (not tach as previously suspected). On the positive side, there was only the hot wire from the key switch.
The Pertronix instructions are really limited and don't fully discuss diagnostics. I expected a simle 20 minute install and spent several hours before reinstalling the points. Has anypne had similar issues with the Pertronix II?

You should not have a ground wire on the negative side of the coil. But that really doesn't matter if it runs with the points.
You should have a hot wire on the coil +, and then the points ground and unground the coil to make it fire. If you have a meter or testlight, you can put it on the negative of the coil, and watch the voltage of the coil negative blink on and off as you crank the engine.
That's all the the pretronix does, is turn the negative of the coil on and off. So you should see the negative blink with the module installed.
You may just have a dead unit and need to return it. And most people throw their old points set int he glove box after the install, just as a backup in case this happens on the road.
Thanks Franklin, I am going to try on emore thing before assuming the unit is dead. I will run a hot wire straight to the ignition (bypassing the pink wire) to see if that is it. If not, I will return it.
