I have a supercrew with the flow through console, and I would like to install a VHF radio in the storage box of the console. Does anybody have experience with removing the "box" portion of this storage area. There are 4 bolts at the bottom, but I'm not sure what else is required to get it out. I'm planning on drilling a hole in the bottom of the box to pass the wires down through the console and out under the driver seat. Thanks
Personally, I do NOT have experience taking apart the flow-thru console. But, my dealership had to do it in order to install the aftermarket security/alarm flashing light in front of my shifter. So, I have the stock flasher on the dash, and the aftermarket on the console. Anyway, you might want to drop by a dealership or two and talk with their shop and/or accessories counter to see if someone there can tell you exactly what's involved.
And if and when they do, make sure you post this new info here! I'm hoping to one day add something in my console, and would greatly appreciate such information. Even better, I'd R-E-A-L-L-Y like to see what it looks like with the casing/housing/cover off. I want to know how much space is available underneath the shifter, etc. Pictures, pictures pictures! For the benefit of myself and anyone else, please take any and all pictures you can ... as well as any measurements.
Okay, now that you have your homework cut out for you ... chop, chop!
That's it Gordo, and I applogize for the mistake I made about the type of radio that guy was installing. I think he was actually installing a "Roady" but I used his instructions to install my commander. Hope it helped though!
Actually, my search had a hiccup for a minute or two because I copy-n-pasted your "XM radio instillation." I didn't realize how you'd misspelled it ... instAllation. ;D
I used the picture posters profile to (hopefully) send him an email since a few of his pics had invalid paths. Anyway.... thanks again!
