I will be 49 in September. On a very good day I can do 345. Once. At one time I could do twice my body weight, but, at 235lbs (6') and given my advanced age, I don't care to put that much into it anymore.
I'm 5'10 165lbs and when I started lifting about two years ago I could bench maybe 85-95 once. Not much. Well I lifted pretty hard for a year then quit for a few months and then started again. I can max out at 175x5 times. Works out to about 200lbs. But the kicker is that I can not bench 200. I can equal that total with lower numbers. Don't know why but just can't seem to do it.
29 here 190lbs and I can currently bench 255. About 3.5 years ago before I got married and stopped lifting I could get 295 twice. I love teasing the wife about how much strength I lost since we met.

I know several guys who screwed up their elbows doing either lat pulldowns to heavy or curls. I strained my elbow about 5 years ago, still hurts whenever I do anything but bench.
Sounds like they suffered from improper form. I do weighted chins with a 45 and haven't had any problems.
I was thinking the same thing. I'd like to see everyone's form, especially those that claim they can squat 405.
Actually, squatting 405 isn't outrageous at all, walk into any college weightroom when the football team is in there working out and you will most likely see any number of guys doing sets of 405 for multiple reps. Legs are a lot stronger than arms and I have always found its easier to make gains with your lower body than with the upper body. Form is important a lot of squat claims are BS b/c people never get near parallel but good coaches and spotters will take care of that. I always just let the weight take me below parallel before I started to go back up. Proper stretching before squats is imperative as well most people don't get parallel b/c they are not flexible enough.
i agree with Fatman- i know 17 year old kids who can squat 350, give them 6 months and theyll be doing 405. the legs are easiest to train. my leg press went from 450 to 850 in under 8 weeks. i use to NEVER do leg press for fear of knee lock up, a little problem i have... but once i started i nearly doubled my leg press with little effort.
by the way the 17 year old kids i know who squat 350- are about 5'11" - 6'0" and weigh around 250

I wasn't implying that squatting 405 is outrageous at all. That's what I squat, but I go to parallel, whereas, I've seen enough people "TRY" to do 405 and only manage to go half way and they still consider it a successful rep. We have powerlifters in my gym that box squat over 800 lbs. We also have some that can bench 675.
Too often, weights are based on egoes. Usually, serious individuals refrain from giving that information.
Parralel Box Squat: 585 x4 675 x1
Below Parralel Back Squat: 455 x3
Bench: 405 x1
Incline bench: 300 x1
Hang Clean: 286 x3
Hang HiPull: 363 x2
Hang ******: 209 x2 220 x1
I'm not bragging or anything, just contributing to the post. I consider myself strong, but there are people down here that are alot stronger than I am. There are female throwers at OSU that can bench near 300 and can front squated 400. As I said in my post before, I am almost 19 yrs old, 6'6" 330 and I am on the Ohio State track team. Guess which events I do lol.......
