I hit 170 going thru my weight gain phase. I'm only 150-155 so I though that was pretty good. I never really do more than 140 though, usually 115. I climb, and gaining more weight will hurt my performace. Plus I couldn't afford all the food for my diet at the time . Gonna work on bigger overhangs once my foot heals, so I might have to hit the bench a little harder again.
I can hardly wait until you guys are all my age. Heh Heh, your backs are probably gonna be about like mine, but with luck you'll do better. When I was your ages, I curled too many 12's and 16's, worked too hard, slept too little and played like there was no tomorrow. Now I'm paying for it. Unless you are getting paid for it, I can't see the sense in pushing that kind of stress on your body. Lift within reason, repetition and duration...that will make you strong. But thats OMHP.
At my age, after a life of construction work, and hard livin (by choice), I am glad when I can get my butt up everyday out of bed, without alot of aches and pains. 250 to 275 was my range when I was young. I quit that years ago. If I knew I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.
I enjoy lifting regularly, I think it is a good boost for your ego to compare yourself to others. Especially when you have been working hard at getting to be as strong as you can. Nothing wrong with some friendly competition. I'm 34 years old and feeling pretty good, I weigh around 250 lbs. and I am 6' 5" tall. I haven't maxed on the bench for about two months now. I 'll have to give it a go next time I'm at the gym. Two months ago I was able to put up 400lbs. I have been lifting well since so hopefully I 've made some gains. Keep on pushing................
When I was at my peak playing college football (6'1'', 330 lbs) I benched 405 lbs once and squatted 600 lbs once and had 275 hang clean. Four years later and a blown out right ankle, left knee and injuries to each shoulder I'm a lot weaker now and I don't get to the gym as much anymore. One guy I played football with squatted over 1000 lbs once and benched 525 lbs and hang cleaned over 315 once during a testing period, he was 5'10'' and maybe 245lbs. This kid was a monster.
I benched 200 in highschool, deadlifted 335. Was 5'10 and 180 pounds. Now, many years later 5,10 200-215 pounds...I work out 2 or 3 times a week. I no longer go for big lifts. Last night for example. I benched 80 pounds 200 times. Same as curls. I curled 50 pounds 100 times. I dont get the big bulk as with power lifting, but I do get that lean muscle. I do rows till I cant do em anymore. Rows are one of my favorites, because it works arms, shoulders, back, abs, and legs.
Rows are great cardio as well Peppy, one of my favorites...they actually helped us in stuntriding for the upper body strength we needed for some tricks
