I am very happy with my 6.0. I just trailered a loaded Expy, two dirt bikes, and a bedful of parts and tools out to Arizona, and the only problem I had, besides being tired, was that I got a little bit of oil blowback from the PCV. Still, pulling a total weight over 18000 lbs through the Ozarks and the Divide keeps that turbo real busy.
I was really paranoid about my 6.0 after reading this stuff, too. I checked my oil at pretty much every stop for fuel, watched to see if my turbo hoses were getting ready to blow off, and checked the good old bell housing for the famous leak...but I'd do that anyway. If I didn't have my nerves, I'd have nothing at all!
The oil consumption from the blowback didn't even show on my dipstick (although it dampened the intercooler to engine intake tube a bit, and my hose didn't budge. I averaged 13.8 mpgs with the trailer, which had me thrilled. I changed the oil and it almost seemed a crime to do it. Then I turned around and head back to PA with the empty trailer, going like a bat out of you know where. I made it in two days. I had no oil anywhere this time, and the noise abatement stuff kicked in real nice too. The tranny has been rock-solid for the 6000 miles I've gone so far. 5000 of those are with a trailer, and 2500 of those 5000 are with a heavy trailer. I'd be willing to stand on that.
Dittos to the fellow who saw 'em at the truck stops. I've seen a few other "lil pups" with 6.0s there too, and all of us were happy campers.
I drove from Austin, TX to S.F.Bay Area and back. Me and the wife and luggage. Set it on 75 and let it run. Added Stanadyne Performance Formula with each tank. With the Predator 65HP program I got 18-19 mpg depending on wind and terrain. Never had a problem except paying too much for diesel in Calif. Truck ran great.
I just hit 25,000 miles on my early 2003. Only issue was the intercooler duct had to be replaced, but I LOVE MY TRUCK!!! Power is fantastic and it looks cool! Tows like a dream (8k lb 5er). 10% grades are no problem for this truck.
I am thinking about a tuner, but...we'll see. I don't really need it, but who does? I would buy it again in a heartbeat!
I was a little nervous after reading some of the posts here too. however, I have had my truck for about a month now and I LOVE it. this baby will run circles around my old V10 and I'm getting 15mpg in the city. not to mention that this is Ford Country around here (Dearborn Michigan). ya just can't throw a dead cat without hitting a ford around here.On another note, I should be getting my edge/attitude combo tomorrow and I really apprecieate everybodys helpful information. I hope I can be as helpful someday. thanks everyone
